It was hilarious,\u201d Phil told David and Will on FIVEAA. He said the speeches at the ball were always \u201clight hearted\u201d and \u201cself deprecating\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the entire country\u2019s lost its sense of humour.<\/p>\n \u201cTurnbull was taking the mickey out of himself. He was using Trump as a prop, but it was all about his own plight. He was having a go at himself. It was very funny — it brought the house down.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Phil said claims speeches as the ball were off the record were overblown.<\/p>\n \u201cThey know there\u2019s a very high probability — about 100 per cent — that it\u2019s going to get out. You\u2019re never going to say anything that\u2019s completely stupid.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was probably pushing it a bit given the relationship with Trump, but if you listen to the whole thing, it\u2019s actually pretty funny.<\/p>\n \u201cHonestly, this country is so fast losing its sense of humour. It\u2019s just forgotten how to laugh. Twitter always needs something to get outraged about.
