New figures reveal the postcodes in Australia where residents receive more welfare than they pay in income tax — and three of the worst are in SA.<\/h3>\n

The figures show Adelaide\u2019s north represents among the greatest welfare challenges the country faces.<\/p>\n

But FIVEAA\u2019s David Penberthy said \u201cwithout doubt\u201d the concerning figures were linked to the decline of manufacturing and warned against \u201cbludger bashing\u201d:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all well and good for people to say get off the couch and look for a job,\u201d Penbo said on Monday. \u201cThe reality is in a lot of parts, particularly in the north of Adelaide, the old jobs that were there simply aren\u2019t there any more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there\u2019s no job to go for, there\u2019s no job to find — what are you going to do?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Nicola Slade, 36, who lives in Elizabeth Down, said the best thing the government could do to help was to \u201cbring more industry out here\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we could find some manufacturing, we\u2019ve got all these spaces,\u201d she told FIVEAA breakfast. \u201cA great investment into Edinburgh Park\u2026 we need more industry out here.\u201d<\/p>\n
