{"id":29663,"date":"2017-05-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/how-to-heat-your-house-for-one-third-the-cost-of-gas\/"},"modified":"2017-05-18T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-05-18T00:00:00","slug":"how-to-heat-your-house-for-one-third-the-cost-of-gas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/how-to-heat-your-house-for-one-third-the-cost-of-gas\/","title":{"rendered":"How to heat your house for one-third the cost of gas"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The predicted Aussie gas shortage that has pushed up prices is a furphy and there is now no \u201ceconomic reason\u201d to use it, says a top energy advisor.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cOver here in Melbourne, these days we heat our house with our reverse cycle air conditioner,\u201d Tim Forcey from the Uni of Melbourne told Leon Byner on FIVEAA. \u201cIt costs me one-third &#8212; one-third &#8212; the price to heat the house instead of using the old ducted gas system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>LISTEN HERE:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr Forcey said AEMO\u2019s predicted gas shortage had turned out to be only 0.2 per cent, which he said would \u201cevaporate\u201d given demand has dropped every year since 2012.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It is a] ridiculously small shortfall and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to happen because the price of gas is so high now that people are cutting back in using it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>He recommended the use of reverse cycle air conditioners to heat homes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s a heat pump. It captures free heat from the air outside your house and brings it inside &#8212; that\u2019s why it\u2019s so cheap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s renewable energy. It\u2019s really another form of solar energy except you don\u2019t have to have it on your roof.
