Last week it emerged Mark Ray Haydon may be eligible for early release because he was convicted of \u201cassisting\u201d in the Snowtown killings rather than aiding or abetting.<\/p>\n

Mark Ray Haydon | Image | The Advertiser<\/a><\/h6>\nSpeaking on FIVEAA on Thursday, Commissioner Stevens said a senior officer was already reviewing Haydon\u2019s case.<\/p>\n
\u201cPreliminary advice to me is that we would probably be opposing that application,\u201d Mr Stevens told David and Will, but added: \u201cI will wait and see what the full report tells me.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said there was \u201cno doubt\u201d Haydon could have saved the lives of some of the Snowtown victims had he wanted to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\u201cHe\u2019s complicit in the deaths of several people,\u201d Mr Stevens said.<\/p>\n
\u201cClearly that\u2019s something he\u2019s got to live with, but we need to make sure the rest of the community is safe from people like that.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the SAPOL position is that he shouldn\u2019t be paroled, we\u2019ll mount that position very strongly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do have confidence in the parole board. We\u2019ve seen some fairly firm decision from them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
He said SAPOL would \u201cabsolutely\u201d be involved in the review process:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look at the circumstances around the offence, the character of the person, previous history, all that sort of stuff and we\u2019ll prepare a submission for the parole board based on our view having analysed all of the circumstances\u201d<\/p>\n
