Dee Hayward says she was in \u201ccomplete shock\u201d when the man who fatally ran down her husband and fled the scene in 2015 received a sentence that will see him get out of prison this year.<\/h3>\n

\u201cI feel so completely disappointed by the whole system and very insulted,\u201d Dee told David and Will on Friday. \u201cI just feel that it\u2019s so grossly inadequate — well below what I would expect, and well below what the community would expect.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat does make it difficult to cope with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dee said the backdated 3.5-year sentence handed to Kain William Bowman, 27, was a \u201ccomplete shock\u201d:<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was so far short of what I was expecting and what I believed would\u2019ve been fair. I was sitting their shocked and very disappointed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole legal system is very out of touch with what community\u2019s expectation are.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Dee said she was hoping to appeal the sentence, but admitted:<\/p>\n

\u201cEven then it\u2019s still likely to be disappointing because I feel like the framework that we\u2019re working within is just so inadequate.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo have [the sentence] watered down to 3.5 years with a two-year three-month non-parole period — I\u2019m not ok with that. I feel it falls so far short.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
