We\u2019ve got to remember just the natural talent in that team it was unbelievable, especially in that midfield,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGuys like Ben Cousins were renowned for their hard running. You also heard the famous stories about how hard he prepared and how hard he trained, so you just thought\u2026 he\u2019s able to put himself to the limit in game days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>But Brownie said the release of a nine-year-old AFL report into the Eagles had \u201ctarnished\u201d the club\u2019s 2006 premiership:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cUnquestionably I think it\u2019s tarnished it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou think, geez, there\u2019s blurry lines there. Where did the lines get crossed? A lot of the boys were taking illicit drugs to up themselves to keep themselves partying &#8212; you certainly hope they weren\u2019t doing that and it crossed into the performance part of their week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think we can just say, ah well, that\u2019s what the boys get up to off the field &#8212; boys will be boys. In the general public, and I think most of the footy community, would say it\u2019s tarnished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I\u2019m not one that would sit here and say they were genuinely cheating. But you would have to argue it\u2019s in the grey area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously the microscope\u2019s been put onto [former Eagles coach] John Worsfold a little bit more for not digging a little bit deeper and questioning his players.
