{"id":29994,"date":"2017-03-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-03-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/minister-says-he-can-fix-the-problem-with-the-clipsal-500\/"},"modified":"2017-03-06T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-03-06T00:00:00","slug":"minister-says-he-can-fix-the-problem-with-the-clipsal-500","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/minister-says-he-can-fix-the-problem-with-the-clipsal-500\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister says he can fix the problem with the Clipsal 500"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Tourism Minister Leon Bignell says he\u2019s working to rebuild the falling attendance figures to the Clipsal 500.<\/h3>\n<p>Mr Bignell told David and Will on FIVEAA crowds were down 1,500-2,500 each of the first three days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019d like to see them bigger,\u201d the minister said. \u201cWe knew four or five years ago that if we went after the same market that had traditionally gone to motor racing that those numbers were going to drop away\u2026 the demographic\u2019s getting smaller and smaller.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s why we\u2019re trying to take the appeal of the race to the whole family &#8212; we\u2019re getting more women along, we\u2019re getting more kids along. It\u2019s going to take time, but we are working on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minister Bignell said he hoped event prices weren\u2019t stopping people from attending:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe hope not because it\u2019s the family we really want to go after. We\u2019re really trying to get the family market &#8212; we brought in new tickets structures this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll pull this apart, as we do after every race, and just see where we can improve on it. No one gets it perfect every year and we\u2019ll look at what we can do better next year, including the price points.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But he also said attendances were \u201cup in a lot of areas\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCorporate was good [and] a lot more people coming in from interstate and New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last couple of years we\u2019ve put a lot of effort in to New Zealand.
