If you want to be competitive in international sports you have to invest in them.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>LISTEN HERE:<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/309919077&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you just want to be world champions in sports that only feature two or three other nations, or not even that in AFL, then great, but don\u2019t call yourself the greatest sporting nation on earth if you\u2019re not going to compete internationally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a correlation between investment and success\u2026 per capita we\u2019re not investing enough in football in this country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t even get $5 million\u2026 that\u2019s the problem. It\u2019s a big issue. This is the brutal reality of international sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Simon said Australia risked being left behind by regional neighbours like China, Japan and Korea who were ploughing billions into their local leagues\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of a sudden you\u2019ve this arms race going on. If we\u2019re not careful in this country, we\u2019re going to get left behind.
