Australians right now can\u2019t afford a pay cut &#8212; our wage growth is already incredibly low.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/309091431&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He warned the pay cut could have a \u201cdetrimental impact\u201d on the economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf some of our lowest paid workers no longer have a $1 billion to spend collectively, that directly comes out of the shop fronts and the cafes and restaurant across Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Employment expert Prof Andrew Stewart said: \u201cWe don\u2019t know for sure what\u2019s going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe question is how many businesses are actually going to open up, how many new jobs will that actually create?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the commission believed \u201cbusinesses are likely to respond by trading more, by opening up more, by offering more services and that will create more employment opportunity\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time though, it does mean for some low paid workers their pay potentially goes down.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>MOST POPULAR<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/news\/coca-cola-employees-shocked-by-closure\"><strong>EMPLOYEES SAY THEY WERE SHOCKED BY COKE CLOSURE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/videos\/sickening-adelaide-video-goes-viral\"><strong>SICKENING ADELAIDE VIDEO GOES VIRAL<\/strong><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unions are furious after the Fair Work Commission decided to cut Sunday penalty rates for the hospitality, fast food and retail industries. \u201cWe\u2019re incredibly disappointed,\u201d the SDA\u2019s Josh Peak told Leon Byner on FIVEAA. \u201cWe were really hopeful that the Fair Work Commission was going to leave rates the way they were.
