Burnside Council has unanimously voted against hosting a Tour Down Under stage, with one councillor calling to \u201cleave it to the plebs.\u201d<\/h3>\n

\u201cCampbelltown are doing it and Norwood are doing it and Unley are doing it. Well, so what?\u201d Councillor Anne Monceaux said. \u201cSo why should Burnside do it? Leave it to the plebs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Advertiser reports<\/a> that Ms Monceaux also said businesses in Norwood disliked the TDU because \u201cno one can get to their shops \u2026 because of all the people getting in the way\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ms Monceaux spoke to FIVEAA\u2019s David and Will off air on Monday\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just had a chat to Ms Monceaux off air,\u201d Penbo said. \u201cShe said she doesn\u2019t want to come on. She actually apologised for her remark, she said that she meant no offence by using the word \u2018plebs\u2019. She said that she got carried away in the heat of the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt does reinforce the perception that Burnside is a bit snooty, which is in no way a slight on the people of that area — particularly given that most of them wanted the TDY to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n

A council survey found that 85 per cent of all respondents wanted to see Burnside host a stage — 96 per cent among those under 35.<\/p>\n
