Nick Xenophon has called Christopher Pyne \u201ca disgrace\u201d after a spat broke out between the SA political heavyweights when Xenophon defended his blocking of the government\u2019s omnibus bill on FIVEAA breakfast.<\/h3>\n

Explaining his decision, Nick Xenophon said he believed the government should pursue savings on defence spending —<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a real argument that there\u2019s waste that can be cut that won\u2019t compromise the defence of Australia, and that\u2019s the sort of thing that I think the government needs to think outside of the square\u2026\u201d Xenophon said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

FIVEAA\u2019s Will Goodings immediately pounced on the comment:<\/h3>\n

\u201cCan you really be critical of defence spending though when you advocated the building of submarines in south Australia — the largest defence project in Australian history?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cAbsolutely I can be critical of waste,\u201d Xenophon said, \u201cnot critical of the local build of our submarines.\u201d<\/p>\n
