{"id":30116,"date":"2017-02-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-02-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/no-excuse-for-heatwave-blackout-says-koutsantonis\/"},"modified":"2017-02-08T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2017-02-08T00:00:00","slug":"no-excuse-for-heatwave-blackout-says-koutsantonis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/no-excuse-for-heatwave-blackout-says-koutsantonis\/","title":{"rendered":"David and Will\u2019s explosive interview with Tom Koutsantonis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>SA Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis has laid the blame for the state\u2019s heatwave blackout squarely at the feet of the National Electricity Market.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not making any excuses &#8212; last night was avoidable and unacceptable,\u201d Koutsantonis told David and Will on FIVEAA brekkie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast night the Australian Energy Market Operator was informed by Pelican Point that they could turn their second unit on and provide 250 MW, which would\u2019ve covered last night.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/306786650&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Australian energy market operator decided that it was not going to turn that generation on\u2026 they decided that we\u2019d load shed instead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve made a decision that they think was better for the South Australian economy\u2026 and we disagree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>40,000 South Australian customers had their power deliberately cut on Wednesday night as part of a load shedding order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuite frankly, I think every South Australian has every right to wake up today angry,\u201d Koutsantonis said, \u201cevery right to be upset about the way the National Electricity Market is run.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe message is clear that the National Electricity Market is no longer serving the interest of the people of this state or our economy.
