There were 606 high speed chases on Adelaide streets last year, up from 325 in 2012\/13.<\/p>\n

\u201cQuite clearly these crimes are being committed in a lot of cases by the same people. There\u2019s a gang of kids and young men and women who are terrorising this city,\u201d David Penberthy said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIts not some cooked up threat. There are people who have died this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Penbo said the public didn\u2019t buy Chief Justice Chris Kourakis\u2019 emphasis on the dysfunctional upbringings of violent offenders.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou look at the person who\u2019s doing the bashing and you say, \u2018That poor man, what could\u2019ve gone so terribly wrong in his life?\u2019\u2026 that\u2019s the screwed up logic of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of the attention goes to the offender, not the victim.\u201d<\/p>\n
