Former Port Adelaide champ Kane Cornes has predicted Jarman Impey will miss round one of the 2017 AFL season after a hit and run incident on Saturday.<\/h3>\n

\u201cI would say that he\u2019ll probably miss round one,\u201d Kane told FIVEAA brekkie… \u201cI think there\u2019ll be a games penalty.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Kane also said, \u201cWhatever punishment the club throws at him will be nothing to what he\u2019s gone through in the last 24 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Impey made headlines over the weekend after crashing into parked vehicles and fleeing the scene after drinking at a party at a teammate\u2019s house.<\/p>\n

“I made some bad decisions,” Impey said in an apology.<\/p>\n

Impey had left a pool party at teammate Angus Monfries’ house, crashing his car into Monfries’ parked Audi about 7pm Saturday.<\/p>\n

“Given the extent of the damage of the car that he hit, it looked reckless, it was a fair impact,” Port’s chief executive Keith Thomas told reporters on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“It looks like he has hit that one pretty firmly and bounced off into a couple of others.”<\/p>\n

Impey left his phone and wallet at the scene and is understood to have walked home – a 17km walk – before club officials located him after midnight.<\/p>\n

Impey’s teammates didn’t tell police but went to club officials. Port didn’t report Impey to a police station until Sunday morning though the club later said in a statement that police were on the scene by 7.35pm that night.<\/p>\n

He was charged with driving without due care, fail to exchange particulars and failing to report the collision and will appear in court at a later date.<\/p>\n

“I have spoken to police and understand there will be repercussions to my actions,” Impey said in a brief video statement released by the club.<\/p>\n

“I’m sorry for what happened … I can’t apologise enough.”<\/p>\n

Impey, a 55-gamer for the Power, had been drinking at Monfries’ house with other Port teammates until about 7pm.<\/p>\n

“They were drinking during the afternoon, this happened around seven o’clock so to what extent alcohol was involved at that time, I’m not sure,” Thomas said.<\/p>\n

“It feels to me like he was really just panicked by the situation he was in … unfortunately under pressure, Jarman didn’t respond quite the right way.”<\/p>\n

Impey will meet coach Ken Hinkley and the club’s leadership group on Monday.<\/p>\n

“We’re disappointed that we’re in this situation,” said Thomas, whose club is sponsored by car company Renault.<\/p>\n

“We will be discussing this at length with Jarman and the leadership group tomorrow. I’m sure that there will be disciplinary action.”<\/p>\n

Kane said questions would be asked of Impey\u2019s teammates\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cYou look after your mates and I think that\u2019s what his teammates will be asked this morning,\u201d Kane said. \u201cDid he just slip out? \u2026 we don\u2019t know. Ken Hinkley and Keith Thomas will be asking could they have done more.\u201d<\/p>\n
