{"id":30791,"date":"2016-08-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/power-leaders-on-the-hook\/"},"modified":"2016-08-12T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-12T00:00:00","slug":"power-leaders-on-the-hook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/power-leaders-on-the-hook\/","title":{"rendered":"Power leaders on the hook"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Image | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aflphotos.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AFL Photos<\/a><\/h6>\n<h3>Assistant coach Nathan Bassett has turned up the heat on Port Adelaide\u2019s leaders, saying the club will find new ones if it has to.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cOur senior players \u2013 and they\u2019ll be the first ones to admit it \u2013 haven\u2019t stood up often enough,\u201d Bassett told FIVEAA\u2019s Rowey and Bicks on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have stood up at times this year, but not consistently enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bassett contrasted the Power\u2019s unpredictable senior players with Sydney\u2019s \u2013 the side that belted Port Adelaide by 67 points on the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot many weeks Parker, Hannebery, Kennedy, Kieren Jack, Lance Franklin \u2013 there\u2019s not many weeks those guys don\u2019t turn up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h3>LISTEN HERE:<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/277316411&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But Bassett said the fix was to \u201ckeep working\u201d with the side\u2019s leaders. \u201cShow them what it looks like, keep training it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive them the support that they need and the experiences in those situations. And if they don\u2019t change, then we find new leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bassett didn\u2019t shy away from suggestions the issue with Port\u2019s senior players is mental.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of footy is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of what we do is between the ears.
