{"id":30804,"date":"2016-08-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/xenophon-s-census-stunt-could-hurt-sa\/"},"modified":"2016-08-10T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-08-10T00:00:00","slug":"xenophon-s-census-stunt-could-hurt-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/xenophon-s-census-stunt-could-hurt-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"Xenophon\u2019s Census stunt could hurt SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Federal Liberal minister Christopher Pyne has lashed out at Nick Xenophon, saying the SA Senator\u2019s boycott of the 2016 Census is hurting the state.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s damaging South Australia,\u201d Pyne told FIVEAA breakfast\u2019s David and Will on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause if we have less people recorded in South Australia as living here because they don\u2019t complete the census properly, it\u2019ll actually mean that we might lose a seat in the House of Representatives,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese things have consequences and Senator Xenophon should stop playing politics and start being responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>LISTEN HERE:<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/277579374&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the week Senator Xenophon goaded the ABS, saying he wouldn\u2019t be putting his name on his Census form and vowing to fight any fines he received as a result.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think politicians trying to stir up concern about this, this tin foil hat politics that we\u2019re seeing from Senator Xenophon is just his latest attempt to place himself in the centre of a story,\u201d Pyne said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cQuite frankly, he should be trying to be constructive and supportive as opposed to leading the charge against something which is a very important collection of information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Wednesday\u2019s Two Tribe\u2019s segment on FIVEAA breakfast, Pyne\u2019s sparring partner Anthony Albanese was scathing of the government\u2019s handling of the 2016 Census, which was moved online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been a debacle from go to whoa,\u201d Albo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been going on for weeks where the government has failed to come out and explain why the changes are being made, explain how last night would work and quite clearly were unprepared for last night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Millions of Aussies were unable to access the ABS website on Census night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was of course the alleged hacking incident, but all night people were complaining about being unable to lodge their information in the system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whole process here has been handled appallingly, and the government does have to accept some responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of the problem here is that the government wasn\u2019t coming out and explaining. They left it to a very junior guy, Michael McCormack, who\u2019s a nice fella.
