{"id":30869,"date":"2016-07-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/new-port-adelaide-plans-don-t-include-city-of-adelaide-clipper-ship-report\/"},"modified":"2016-07-12T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-12T00:00:00","slug":"new-port-adelaide-plans-don-t-include-city-of-adelaide-clipper-ship-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/new-port-adelaide-plans-don-t-include-city-of-adelaide-clipper-ship-report\/","title":{"rendered":"New Port plans don\u2019t include \u2018City of Adelaide\u2019 clipper ship: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>UPDATE (11:58pm)<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Minister for Housing and Urban Development Stephen Mullighan has unveiled a $280m plan to develop 23 hectares of waterfront Port Adelaide land into a residential, commercial and tourist destination.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese projects provide plenty of open space and recreational facilities, as well as preserving public access to the waterfront as well,\u201d Mr Mullighan said. \u201cIt will be a great place for families looking to live in the west.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The upgrade will include nearly 1,300 homes.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s currently unknown what will happen to the \u2018City of Adelaide\u2019 clipper ship, but Mr Mullighan said he was \u201ccommitted\u201d to keeping it in the Port.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"366\" width=\"650\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/new_port_adelaide.jpeg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>EARLIER<\/p>\n<h3>FIVEAA\u2019s Mike Smithson says he has a creditable tip-off that development plans for an overhaul of Port Adelaide do not include the historic \u2018City of Adelaide\u2019 clipper ship that was returned to the Port in 2014.<\/h3>\n<p>The government is scheduled to reveal its preferred partners for its Port Adelaide revamp on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut from what I am hearing from one of my very, very good contacts down there who has been briefed and has seen the plans, is that the plans don\u2019t account for or make room for the \u2018City of Adelaide\u2019, the clipper ship that came here in February 2014,\u201d Smithson said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"366\" width=\"650\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/clipper.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Smitho challenged the government to knock the rumour \u201con the head\u201d, but said there would be a stink if the ship was excluded from future development at the Port.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a famous ship built in 1864 to carry passengers to Adelaide from the other side of the world.
