Transport Minister Stephen Mullighan says he is sceptical of private models for funding Adelaide\u2019s proposed tram extension, but admits there might be ways private interests can play a role. <\/h3>\n

Mr Mullighan was critical of the Turnbull Government\u2019s \u201cvalue uplift\u201d model designed to capture \u201cadditional value from having a tramline\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat that means is if you live close to one of these new tramlines, you\u2019re going to have pay more rates or you\u2019re going to have to pay some new tax.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople don\u2019t want to do that, for obvious reasons. And we don\u2019t think that that\u2019s necessary. I think that\u2019s why we\u2019ve been very sceptical about some of these private sector models, which may end up just taxing the householder more.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople see through that pretty quickly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
