Former state Liberal leader and now Labor minister Martin Hamilton-Smith has denied acting in his own best interests in a heated exchange on FIVEAA breakfast after sensationally suggesting he could potentially switch his support back to the Liberal party.<\/h3>\n

\u201cHave you had a loyalty bypass?\u201d David Penberthy asked Mr Hamilton-Smith on FIVEAA breakfast.<\/p>\n

Penbo accused Mr Hamilton-Smith of going after the \u201c30 pieces of silver and the big white car that come with being a minster\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou told the voters to go and get stuffed,\u201d Penbo said, which Mr Hamilton-Smith denied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is completely and totally wrong,\u201d said Mr Hamilton-Smith. \u201cYou are here to serve the people. You are here to serve the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI determined that the best way to serve my electorate and the people of South Australia was by making myself useful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people of Waite voted for a liberal conservative, they\u2019ve still got one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy decision was to bring stability to government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Hamilton-Smith said his first priority as an MP was to serve the community, not a political party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s where I think people have become disenchanted with both the major parties,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

But Penbo dismissed Mr Hamilton-Smith\u2019s comments as \u201crubbish\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople have become disenchanted with politics because of opportunism and you are an opportunist,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
