Attorney General John Rau told David and Will that the judge\u2019s decision looked set to be appealed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been concerned about this legislation for a while and I amended it\u2026 to say the primary consideration of the court is public safety,\u201d Mr Rau said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is the primary consideration that the judge had to have in his mind.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf he got that wrong, it\u2019s a matter for the courts to sort out. As I understand it, the Director of Public Prosecutions has indicated his intention to appeal the decision.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am doing everything that I can do in my position \u2013 including changing the law \u2013 to make it clear that people like this, in my opinion, should not be out and about.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Attorney General didn\u2019t rule out amending the relevant legislation again if that turned out to be necessary.<\/p>\n
