UPDATE (4:08pm): Bernard Finnigan has announced his resignation from the Legislative Council, with immediate effect.<\/h3>\n

\u201cOn Tuesday, I issued a public statement advising that I intended, over coming days, to give careful consideration to his Honour\u2019s Judgement and to take advice. This I have done,” Finnigan said in a statement obtained by The Advertiser’s Daniel Wills and published on Twitter.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the circumstances, I have determined that the most appropriate course is to resign from the Legislative Council, with immediate effect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wills also reported that Premier Jay Weatherill had responded to the news by saying, \u201cThe proper course of action has now been taken.\u201d<\/p>\n

EARLIER on FIVEAA Mr Weatherill had called for Mr Finnigan to resign<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cObtaining access to child pornography is an awful crime,\u201d Mr Weatherill told David and Will.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea that one would assert a continuing membership of a house of parliament in those circumstances just beggars belief. He should resign immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n
