{"id":31603,"date":"2015-10-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/brian-lake-takes-hits-with-grain-of-salt\/"},"modified":"2015-10-09T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-10-09T00:00:00","slug":"brian-lake-takes-hits-with-grain-of-salt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/brian-lake-takes-hits-with-grain-of-salt\/","title":{"rendered":"Lake takes hits with a grain of salt"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Shunning the usual line that players don\u2019t read what\u2019s written about them, Brian Lake has opened up about how he handles articles written about him \u2013 good and bad\u2026<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI read them all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI make sure I do,\u201d Lake told the FIVEAA sports show.<\/p>\n<p>Lake was targeted during Hawthorn\u2019s\u2019 finals campaign by some in the media who suggested he shouldn\u2019t be part of the team.<\/p>\n<p>But Lake was unfazed, saying he\u2019s \u201cnot new to that sort of stuff\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LISTEN to Brian Lake here:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/227451771&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou always read the good articles, so you\u2019ve got to read the bad ones as well,\u201d Lake said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTake little snippets out of it that you think are appropriate and that you think maybe are right, and then you just try to respond as best you can.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully I did that on grand final day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI copped a fair bit of criticism in 2011 as well when my body was getting whacked after three surgeries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not new to that sort of stuff and I know how to take it with a grain of salt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lake also said his decision to retire was in part \u201cmade for me\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think everyone really gets delisted, don\u2019t they? No one really retires of their own accord.
