\u201cNo coach has overseen a more disastrous time at the footy club and left a club in so much pain.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said Hird would receive \u201cover $700,000 not to coach next year\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one will ever question what he did as a player, but as a coach he was an unmitigated disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Caro was also critical of Essendon chairman Paul Little, who she said would also leave the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cPaul Little has led a failed presidency. I know he took over a club in crisis, but he did not help matters.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hird\u2019s decision to step down was the culmination of a 4-6 week \u201cnegotiated settlement\u201d, according to Caro.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it began after the St Kilda defeat in early July. I think that\u2019s when Paul Little and his team realised that something had to happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cTwo other clubs are looking for a coach, and they (Essendon) need to get into the market, and they need to get into it quickly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that the damage being done by these massive losses was really starting to hurt the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt some point they needed to try and stem the bleeding.\u201d<\/p>\n
Caro said it was an \u201copen secret\u201d that several players want to leave the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still think Jake Carlisle wants to leave the club, and I don\u2019t think a new coach is going to change that.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said others on their way out of the club included former Crows coach Neil Craig and Essendon recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro.<\/p>\n
