Speaking on FIVEAA, Channel 7 political reporter Mike Smithson expressed anger over strike action that will affect train commuters, but hinted there could be more to the action than first appears.<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u201cIt really makes me angry,\u201d Smithson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo many people are going to be inconvenienced this morning\u2026 what really makes me angry is these things happen all the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day\u2026 we\u2019re the mugs who get caught in the middle of this.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow about we get a resolution before it gets to this point?\u201d<\/p>\n

Smithson said the longer term problem for the Rail, Tram and Bus Drivers Union is a concern over short-term contracts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs this just the forerunner for trying to privatise part of the rail system?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf that is the case\u2026 that means drivers might be out of a job under privatisation,\u201d Smithson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere has certainly been some sort of scoping study done by the government to find out the feasibility of privatisation.\u201d<\/p>\n
