{"id":32157,"date":"2016-04-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-04-26T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/council-s-plan-to-restrict-cyclists-on-footpaths-to-walking-speed-2\/"},"modified":"2016-04-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-04-26T00:00:00","slug":"council-s-plan-to-restrict-cyclists-on-footpaths-to-walking-speed-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/council-s-plan-to-restrict-cyclists-on-footpaths-to-walking-speed-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Council\u2019s plan to restrict cyclists on footpaths to walking speed"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Salisbury Councillor Brad Vermeer has proposed that police enforce a by-law to ensure cyclists travel at walking pace on footpaths.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m hoping that if we are to slow down cyclists ultimately on footpaths that it will prevent injuries and also encourage cyclists who are in a hurry to use the road,\u201d Mr Vermeer told Leon Byner on FIVEAA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s reasonable in a public safety sense to expect riders to ride at a slower pace\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Vermeer said it would be the job of police to enforce the plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouncils unfortunately don\u2019t have the power to enforce this so it would be up to the police.
