Mr Malinauskas was responding to a question from David Penberthy on FIVEAA breakfast about a plan to close a number of metro police stations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I\u2019m honest with you and your listeners I\u2019d say that politicians don\u2019t like the idea of stations closing,\u201d Mr Malinauskas said, \u201cbecause it results in some curly questions from fellas like yourself, which are legitimate.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut that\u2019s exactly why you don\u2019t want politicians making that call,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou want the commissioner of police to be making a decision about how we get the best bang for our buck.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Malinauskas denied a new $5 million Henley Beach station would only be open during restricted hours.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Henley Beach police station will be a 24 hour, seven days a weeks operation \u2013 that is not changing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe question is whether or not you want police officers sitting behind a desk at three o\u2019clock in the morning waiting to take statutory declarations from constituents.<\/p>\n
\u201cOr would you prefer that same police officer out on the beat arresting people?\u201d<\/p>\n
