{"id":32323,"date":"2016-02-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-02-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/uncategorized\/essendon-should-pay-suspended-players-david-koch-2\/"},"modified":"2016-02-01T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-02-01T00:00:00","slug":"essendon-should-pay-suspended-players-david-koch-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/show\/essendon-should-pay-suspended-players-david-koch-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Essendon should pay suspended players: Koch"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Port Adelaide chairman David Koch says Essendon should foot the bill for payments for suspended players Angus Monfries and Paddy Ryder.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of player payments we believe \u2013 and the other three clubs also believe \u2013 that Essendon is responsible for the payment of the players,\u201d Koch said on FIVEAA.<\/p>\n<p>Monfries and Ryder were both part of Essendon\u2019s discredited 2012 supplement\u2019s program before each was recruited to Port Adelaide.<\/p>\n<p>Koch said the club had lured Monfries before the Essendon saga blew up and the Power were \u201cinnocent victims\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Angus Monfries and Paddy Ryder | FIVEAA\" title=\"Angus Monfries and Paddy Ryder | FIVEAA\" class=\"media-element file-default nova-lazyload-image-wrapper lz-cont img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/monfries_ryder.jpg\" width=\"620\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<h6>Angus Monfries and Paddy Ryder | Image | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portadelaidefc.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Port Adelaide<\/a><\/h6>\n<h3>\u201cPaddy came to us after everything blew up, but we were assured by Essendon and the AFL that the players were innocent victims,\u201d he said.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cEven the AFL tribunal found that they were innocent victims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made our decision on Paddy using the best available information from Essendon, from the AFL and indeed the media claimed they were innocent victims as well, and we based our judgement on that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs it turns out, that information was wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>LISTEN to Port Adelaide chairman David Koch here.<\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"166\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/244499842&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Speaking on FIVEAA, Graham Cornes agreed the responsibility for paying the suspended players wasn\u2019t Port Adelaide\u2019s.<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cIf one of those players tested positive at your club they would be suspended and you wouldn\u2019t have to pay them,\u201d Cornesy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo if the AFL\u2019s agreed that they should be paid \u2013 and I think they should be paid \u2013 the AFL has to be responsible for it, not Port Adelaide surely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kochie also said Port Adelaide were expecting an answer from the AFL this week regarding a submission to recruit top up players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s been with them for a week or two now. They\u2019re assessing that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been assured we will get a decision on that on Tuesday or Wednesday,\u201d Koch said. \u201cThat will be great.
