Gary Ayres worked with Phil Walsh at Geelong in the 1990s and has described Walsh as \u201can amazing man\u201d.<\/h3>\n

Ayres told the FIVEAA sports show that Walsh had been the \u201cstandout candidate\u201d for the job of Geelong\u2019s strength and conditioning coach, a role Walsh held from 1995-1998.<\/p>\n

\u201cPhil and I were both given an opportunity at the Geelong footy club,\u201d Ayres said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was invaluable to me.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe had a wonderful way about him. He was tough, he was firm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with his fitness role, Walsh was also senior runner and sat on the match committee.<\/p>\n

Ayres told the story of Walsh boxing with Ablett Snr. as part of his training program.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was probably fitter than half the guys down there at the time,\u201d Ayres said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had the pleasure of working with him for four years, and I\u2019ll never ever forget it.\u201d<\/p>\n
