New study suggests food vans aren\u2019t costing established businesses as much as previously thought.<\/h3>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been trading in the city for over two years and it is a struggle,\u201d owner of Chimichurri Grill Greg Tillman told FIVEAA breakfast.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re susceptible to the weather. If it\u2019s a very rainy day, we\u2019re just out there trying to cover costs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Greg said food trucks complimented Adelaide council\u2019s plan to enliven the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs there enough business around? Yeah, I think there is,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On top of the $80,000 it cost him to build his van, Greg said he pays a range of rents and fees, including the winter and summer permits he needs to trade.<\/p>\n

He said 40 licenses have been issued, \u201cBut we find that there\u2019s probably less than 10 at any time out there trading\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a free market, people choose. I don\u2019t understand how restricting it more will help any other business,\u201d Greg said.<\/p>\n
