Professor disproves theory around the deaths of famous musicians aged 27.<\/h3>\n

Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse\u2026<\/p>\n

They\u2019re all said to be part of the infamous 27 Club \u2013 musicians who died when they were 27 years old.<\/p>\n

But rather than some kind of curse, Prof. Dianna Kenny from Sydney University has proven that there\u2019s actually no club at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I looked at the concept from a statistical perspective, popular musicians are no more likely to die at the age of 27 than at any other age,\u201d she told Jeremy Cordeaux on FIVEAA.<\/p>\n

So where did the idea of the club from?<\/p>\n

\u201cFor some strange coincidence, people who died at 27 tended to be the consummate musician \u2013 they had international reputations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prof. Dianna Kenny said each time one of them died, the legend of a 27 Club grew, fuelled mostly by journalists.<\/p>\n

The so-called club\u2019s reputation reached a peak after Kurt Cobain died at the age of 27.<\/p>\n

At the time, Cobain\u2019s mum was reported as saying she had pleaded with her son not to join the \u201cstupid\u201d club.<\/p>\n
