Barnaby Joyce\u2019s mission to fix our food labels.<\/h3>\n

Australians are \u201csick of being deceived\u201d, \u201csick of being basically lied to\u201d and sick of the \u201cweasel words\u201d, Federal Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce told Leon Byner on FIVEAA. <\/p>\n

Mr Joyce has been pushing for improved food labeling against much opposition.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, there\u2019s a lot of pushback, and no, I\u2019m not going to change,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is going to be a form of labeling that is simple\u2026 that is diagrammatic\u2026 it will reflect proportionality\u2026 and it\u2019ll be compulsory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Joyce said under the new system a product couldn\u2019t be considered 90 per cent Australian because it was 90 per cent water.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to get this thing moving as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe said we\u2019d take it to cabinet before the end of March and we did, and it went through.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Joyce said he was next meeting with the Industry Minister on Thursday.<\/p>\n
