Health Minister Jack Snelling says young veterans have spoken to him about the inadequacy of Adelaide\u2019s Repatriation Hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve certainly spoken to me to say that the Repat is unable to meet the needs of younger, contemporary veterans,\u201d Mr. Snelling told Jeremy Cordeaux on FIVEAA.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur veterans\u2019 needs are changing and the Repat as it\u2019s currently configured just doesn\u2019t deliver to the needs of modern veterans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe needs of our veterans community has changed a lot since the Second World War when the Repat hospital, the substantial part of it, was built.\u201d<\/p>\n
Opposition to the plan to close the existing Repat has been emboldened after the government was forced to back down from its plan to wind back emergency services at Noralunga Hospital.<\/p>\n
Both initiatives were part of the government\u2019s ‘Transforming Health’ plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has always been a consultation process.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you can tell us a better way to achieve these things, then we\u2019re going to take those on board. And that\u2019s exactly what\u2019s happened,\u201d Mr. Snelling said.<\/p>\n
