Attorney General on decision to scrap the planned $500 million upgrade of the state courts.<\/h3>\n

The plan to upgrade Adelaide\u2019s court precinct did not represent good use of taxpayers\u2019 money, Attorney General John Rau told FIVEAA breakfast. <\/p>\n

He likened the scrapped plan to leasing a car as opposed to buying one.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole process was revolving around this being a PPP \u2013 a public private partnership,\u201d Mr. Rau said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately we think this is not something that\u2019s good use of taxpayers money compared to what it would cost for us simply to buy the thing ourselves,\u201d Mr. Rau said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately once we looked at the design and said, yes, this looks good, we then had to say, ok, is the tax payer getting value for money in the proposal the way they want to price it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Rau said it was on these grounds the plan was scrapped.<\/p>\n

He said \u201can amount of about $300,000\u201d had already been spent scoping the project.<\/p>\n
