Fireworks displays have the potential to spook refugees from war-torn countries and should be banned, argues Adelaide Councillor Anne Moran.<\/h3>\n

Councillor Moran told FIVEAA Breakfast\u2019s David & Will on Thursday:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a child of the Vietnam War and I remember then that the returnees were saying loud noises — even a car backfiring — used to freak them out and send them straight back to the war zone\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019ve seen the Australia Day march there\u2019s a high representative of the African nations in that march, which is just wonderful. They\u2019ve escaped terrible war torn counties and brought their children over here so I\u2019d imagine that would freak them out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

WILL:<\/strong> \u201cBut so you have just imagined it? Has anyone actually said it?\u201d<\/p>\n

ANNE: <\/strong>\u201cOh yes, there\u2019s been lots of research on it\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

WILL:<\/strong> \u201cBut has anyone actually said that to you, that they\u2019ve been freaked out by the fireworks display? Someone actually came up and said it scares me?\u201d<\/p>\n

ANNE:<\/strong> \u201cYes, I\u2019ve had contact with people, yes, and I\u2019ve researched it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
