{"id":42347,"date":"2020-06-19T10:37:23","date_gmt":"2020-06-19T01:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/?p=42347"},"modified":"2020-06-19T10:38:23","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T01:08:23","slug":"horrifying-allegations-not-investigated-by-ndis-says-mp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.fiveaa.com.au\/david-and-will-2\/horrifying-allegations-not-investigated-by-ndis-says-mp\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cHorrifying\u201d Allegations Not Investigated By NDIS, Says MP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Local MP Rebekha Sharkie is calling for an inquiry after she told parliament this week the NDIS watchdog failed to investigate claims of rape, sexual assault and death.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to whistleblowers who contacted Ms Sharkie, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission failed to investigate the alleged rape and sexual assault of two intellectually disabled clients by case workers and the death of a third client from the misuse of a sedative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Sharkie spoke about the allegations with David &amp; Will on Friday\u2019s FIVEAA breakfast show:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThey are horrifying\u2026 and they are all allegations that are known to the commission.<\/p><p>\u201cWe need to have a very clear look at how the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission operates in South Australia because I\u2019m sure that they\u2019re not the only allegations, the only cases that perhaps haven\u2019t been investigated.<\/p><p>\u201cI think we need to have an inquiry into how the commission operates. The commission is there as a cop on the beat to make sure that providers and the people that they employ are doing the right thing by people with a disability.<\/p><p>\u201cI\u2019m deeply concerned. I had whistleblowers who were incredibly courageous. They contacted me and said we can\u2019t sleep at night.
