Marshall suffered the injury to the thumb on his right hand during Saturday night\u2019s loss to St Kilda.<\/p>
The 21-year-old had surgery on Sunday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Assistant coach Nathan Bassett said on Monday Marshall was a big loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been great for us but someone else will have to come in and do his job for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile Marshall\u2019s teammate Zak Butters has been fined for a high bump on former teammate Paddy Ryder during the same match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction as a first offence but the 19-year-old can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the loss coach Ken Hinkley said his side had not been tough enough around the ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think the contest stuff was the biggest challenge for us,\u201d Hinkley said after the game.<\/p>
\u201cWe weren\u2019t able to be as big and as hard as we needed to be and they were much harder and much stronger and they were making us pay more than we were making them pay with their movement of the ball when they went forward.<\/p>
\u201cThey were better than us around the ball tonight. They had dominance in the rucks and were able to get ground level dominance as well and they were physically stronger.<\/p>
\u201cThat\u2019s a challenge for our boys because a couple of times we\u2019ve been beaten that\u2019s where we\u2019ve been beaten. It\u2019s not that we\u2019re not capable but there\u2019s been nights where we haven\u2019t been able to perform at the level we want.<\/p>
