UPDATE, 10:48am: SAPOL Superintendent Scott Denny has told FIVEAA Breakfast there is no rule that requires officers to stop every vehicle on the border<\/strong>, and due to the lengthy line early this morning they allowed trucks to pass through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe saw a change of direction have an effect at one-minute past midnight this morning. With that change of direction the police on the border decided they would stop more trucks than usual but that was done in an attempt to provide the information and the education to as many drivers as possible regarding that new direction. Once we realised there was a lengthy line-up of truck it was a decision that we would clear that backlog at that time and then go back to processing as many drivers as we could as safely as possible.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

A truck driver has told FIVEAA Breakfast the \u201cflood gates\u201d were opened at the SA border early Wednesday morning to let thought about 200 trucks that were lined up and waiting to cross the border.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Darren told FIVEAA Breakfast some trucks had been waiting up to 2.5 hours to get through the border checkpoint:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll of a sudden over the UHF the highway patrol guy who was checking the permits must\u2019ve realised the volume of trucks still lined up waiting to come across.<\/p>

\u201cHe\u2019s made a few phone calls – whether he spoke to the commissioner or not – at about 2.30am this morning he\u2019s just opened the flood gates, said right, we\u2019re letting you all through and after that no one was checked at all.<\/p>

\u201cHe just opened the flood gates and 200 trucks just all got going all at once.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

FIVEAA Breakfast co-host Will Goodings replayed Darren\u2019s comments during his Breaking @ 8 segment and said SAPOL had been contacted for clarification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eyewitness report was also replayed for Premier Steven Marshall who was unaware of the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the first I\u2019ve heard of it,\u201d Mr Marshall said, \u201cand I\u2019m more than happy to ask the Police Commissioner as a matter of urgency what occurred there.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cObviously we\u2019re very concerned about the border. We don\u2019t see the situation in Victoria improving and in fact we were forced to put the harder border arrangements in place from midnight last night.<\/p>

\u201cWe know it\u2019s hugely inconvenient for many businesses and many families, many individuals\u2026 but it\u2019s a necessary protection at the moment.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
