10 people had contacted SA Health by Tuesday morning seeking compensation for the state\u2019s embarrassing border bungle<\/a> on Sunday night, but the health minister says he is expecting to hear from more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Stephen Wade said on Tuesday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe certainly expect more. The government\u2019s made it clear we will consider requests for compensation on a case by case basis.<\/p>

\u201cPeople who believe they\u2019re entitled to compensation can make contact with SA Health.<\/p>

\u201cThere are many variables that arise in compensation \u2026 I actually don\u2019t believe it\u2019s helpful for those families to get bogged down in bureaucratic red tape.<\/p>

\u201cWe want to focus on supporting families where we can, for them to continue with their Christmas plans but we certainly will be working expeditiously to deal with each compensation request.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cTo suggest we should take days to prepare criteria, rather than immediately respond to people\u2019s concerns, I don\u2019t think is the right approach.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Mr Wade said 30 families who were wrongly turned away at road border checkpoints had already returned and been let into SA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
