News broke on Tuesday morning (Aussie time) that PM Scott Morrison had agreed to a Trump request to help investigate the inquiry, which focused on Russian interference in the 2016 US election.<\/p>\n
Phil told FIVEAA Breakfast on Tuesday:<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is true but [Morrison]\u2019s also saying we\u2019re not going to get dragged into it any further\u2026 he\u2019s just going to try and clarify the role Alexander Downer played in what became known as the Mueller Inquiry.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s basically explained to the US, yes, there was a role played by Downer but it was in his role as the high commissioner to London passing on some information\u2026 he wasn\u2019t a player in any of this. Morrison isn\u2019t going to be part of this witch hunt by Trump to now torpedo the Russia inquiry\u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cMorrison through no fault of his own has found himself caught up in the madness of Trump\u2026 it shows Donald Trump is prepared to use the tools of state to torpedo political enemies domestically.<\/p>\n
