According to the SES:<\/p>\n
Raised dust ahead of a cold front expected to pass through South Australia tomorrow (Thursday, 19 September) has prompted a warning to motorists from the State Emergency Service (SES).<\/p>\n
Strong northerly winds have the potential to cause large clouds of fine dust and dust haze in many parts of the state, including the Adelaide metropolitan area and the Mount Lofty Ranges.<\/p>\n
SES Chief of Staff Darryl Wright said motorists needed to take extra care and be vigilant when driving tomorrow.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the visibility is reduced, take extra precautions such as turning your headlights on, allow safe braking distances, and drive to the conditions,\u201d Mr Wright said.<\/p>\n
Mr Wright said people with pre-existing medical conditions may also be at risk.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople can protect themselves by staying inside during dusty conditions, with the doors and windows closed.\u201d Mr Wright said.<\/p>\n
Strong winds associated with the front may also increase the risk of trees or branches falling.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhere possible, people should avoid being around large trees during strong winds, and secure loose items, such as trampolines,\u201d Mr Wright said.<\/p>\n
During sever weather, the SES advises the following precautions:<\/p>\n
– stay indoors and away from windows and skylights when weather conditions are severe<\/p>\n
– secure loose items in your backyard<\/p>\n
– park vehicles undercover and well away from trees<\/p>\n
– shelter and secure pets and other animals<\/p>\n
– stay away from fallen powerlines. Always assume fallen powerlines are live \u2013 they should be reported to SA Power Networks on 13 13 66, and<\/p>\n
– check weather forecasts regularly and listen to local radio for updates.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
