10 South Aussies have died from influenza so far this year while the SA Health boss Professor Paddy Phillips says it is \u201cjust the tip of the iceberg<\/a>\u201d.<\/h3>\n

According to SA Health:<\/p>\n

From 1 January to 4 May 2019, there were 10,636 notifications of influenza virus infection (noting that there is currently an administrative backlog for data entry of cases) reported to the Communicable Disease Control Branch, compared to 1,316 cases reported for the same period last year.<\/p>\n\n

Of these notifications:

\n\t\t\t– 6,008 were in females and 4,628 were in males

\n\t\t\t– The age range is <1 – 101 years, with a median age of 35 years

\n\t\t\t– 10,265 cases (96%) were due to influenza A and 371 cases (4%) were due to influenza B virus

\n\t\t\t– 274 cases (3%) were reported to have required hospital admission

\n\t\t\t– Ten cases (0.05%) were reported to have died from influenza virus infection (age range 15-92 years)<\/p>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n\n
